About Al-Hidaya Islamic Academy
Excellence in Islamic Education Since 2015
Our History
Al-Hidaya Islamic Academy, Kalamassery, was established in 2015 as a unified decision of the Njalakam Muslim Jama'ath. Initially a traditional masjid dars (mosque-based religious education center) following the classical Darsi methodology since 1923, it transformed into an Islamic Academy in 2015. Scholars from southern and northern Kerala, along with prominent Islamic families and community elders, have shaped its growth. The academy attained affiliation with Darul Huda Islamic University, becoming a recognized institution and a symbol of South Kerala's Islamic academic excellence in Kochi.
Our Head
Darul Huda Islamic University (DHIU), located in Chemmad, Malappuram district of Kerala, is a pioneering Islamic educational institution that has transformed the way Islamic and modern education are delivered together in India. Established in 1986, it was born out of the vision to create a generation of scholars who are not only deeply rooted in Islamic knowledge but also well-versed in modern sciences, languages, and contemporary realities.
Unlike traditional madrasas, Darul Huda follows an integrated curriculum that blends classical Islamic sciences with modern academic subjects. Students study the Qur'an, Hadith, Fiqh, and Arabic literature alongside English, philosophy, social studies, science, and computer applications. This unique approach helps students to engage with the world around them, contribute positively to society, and respond wisely to modern challenges through the lens of Islamic principles.
Darul Huda offers a 10-year fully residential program starting from 6th standard. Students live on campus and are trained in an environment that encourages both academic excellence and spiritual development. Arabic is the main language of instruction, but English and Malayalam are also used to ensure multilingual proficiency.
One of the remarkable achievements of DHIU is the creation of the Wafy and Wafiyya programs, which are now followed by many affiliated institutions across India. These programs produce graduates who are capable of becoming religious scholars, teachers, writers, journalists, translators, and social reformers.
The university is guided by Sheikh Abubakr Ahmad, the Grand Mufti of India, who serves as its Chancellor. Under his leadership, DHIU has grown to become an internationally recognized Islamic university, with affiliated campuses not only in India but also in the Gulf countries and the UK.
In addition to its main campus, many institutions have joined hands with Darul Huda in its mission to provide integrated Islamic education. One such institution is Al Hidaya Islamic Academy, which is proudly affiliated with Darul Huda Islamic University. Al Hidaya shares the same educational vision and follows the model curriculum developed by DHIU. Through this affiliation, it aims to nurture a new generation of students who are morally upright, academically competent, and spiritually strong.
Darul Huda also focuses on research, publication, and interfaith dialogue. It publishes scholarly journals in Arabic and Malayalam and organizes national and international conferences to promote deeper understanding of Islam and its relevance in today's world.
In conclusion, Darul Huda Islamic University stands as a symbol of hope for those seeking a balanced education—one that unites faith with reason and spiritual values with social responsibility. Institutions like Al Hidaya Islamic Academy, affiliated with DHIU, continue to carry this mission forward, ensuring a brighter and more enlightened future for Islamic education in India and beyond.
